Children and x-rays

Dr. Bruce Parker, professor of radiology and pediatrics at the Stanford University Medical School, says that children should not be exposed to even a single x-ray unless the potential for benefit is clearly greater than the risk. He points out that children are more likely to develop cancer after x-ray exposure than are older people. We do not know how much radiation is required to induce cancer, but he observes that clearly, the less exposure the better.
