Colon cancer is the second most common cancer in developed countries. A recent study from Italy suggests that never having been married, a family history of colon cancer, a history of constipation, use of laxatives and early menarche all increase the risk of colon cancer.

The researchers speculate that dietary habits may be responsible for the increased risk in those who have never been married. (Cancer Detection and Prevention 22(5)396-404, 1998)
