High fat diet and mental ability

Laboratory rats given a high fat diet showed reduced cognitive (mental) ability. Earlier studies by these same researchers showed that rats given diets high in saturated or polyunsaturated fat had learning and memory deficits. Fats from lard and been tallow were more harmful than fats such as soybean oil. (Behavioral Brain Research 101(2)153-61, 1999)
