Short-sightedness and early education

Children who begin schooling at a young age, and spend a lot of time reading and writing are at increased risk of developing myopia (short sightedness). (Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health 47:50-53, 1993). Editorial note: This study supports our position that children should not be started in school at a young age. Boys, who mature more slowly, should not be put in a classroom until eight or ten years of age. Copyright 1993 Phylis Austin
