Vitamin B-6 and folic acid, found in green leafy vegetables, legumes, and grains reduce the risk of both stroke and heart disease. The researchers in this report noticed that folic acid and B-6 deficiencies were associated with increased risk of stroke and heart disease, regardless of homocysteine levels.
The researchers feel that at least seven milligrams of B-6 and 400 micrograms of folic acid are the minimum. (Circulation 97:437-443, 1998)
