Childhood diet and cancer prevention

Children who consume high fat, high calorie diets during childhood are at increased risk of developing cancer later in life, according to a report from the University of Bristol. A study of nearly 4,000 children followed from 1937 into adulthood revealed that those who had consumed the highest calorie diet had a 20 percent increased risk of dying from cancer. Feeding children diets high in fruits and vegetables decreases their risk. (British Medical Journal 316(7130), February 14, 1998) Copyright 1998 Phylis Austin
