Exercise and the brain

Physical exercise increases the density of the brain’s blood vessels, which improves mental function. Laboratory animals have been shown to actually sprout new blood vessels in the brain after exercise. The increased blood vessels supply additional oxygen to the brain tissues. This may help to prevent the decline in brain function as people age. (New Scientist, January 24, 1998) Copyright 1998 Phylis Austin
