Diet and systemic lupus erythematosus

Animal studies have shown that a low calorie, low fat diet is beneficial in systemic lupus erythematosus. A human study revealed that women whose lupus required corticosteroid treatment used a diet higher in fat than those who manifested milder symptoms. The authors of the report suggest that the use of fatty meats such as lamb, pork, and beef be reduced, that fried food be entirely eliminated, and that dairy products be limited.
